PAWS® Features
PAWS is a Windows application for oil and gas market data management and analysis. PAWS provides a complete database of energy market data combined with powerful analysis capabilities in a single, integrated system. Its key components are:
  • A Database capable of storing a wide variety of oil, gas and petrochemical market information, including physical, swaps and futures prices, refinery yields, freight rates, production and inventory statistics, currency exchange rates and weather data.
  • Automatic Downloading of data, with access to 75 sources of market data through the FAME Energy Data Service and direct links to other external data sources.
  • A User Interface that is designed with the busy trader in mind, giving rapid access to libraries of stored analysis and making it quick and easy to query the database and create new charts and reports.
  • A unique Data Navigation capability designed specifically for energy market data that uses familiar, well-structured names for data series, and makes it easy to find data by location, product type, trading period and other relevant attributes.
  • Data Analysis capabilities that provide powerful time-series analysis and energy data manipulations, including automatic units and currency conversion, averaging and aggregation, spread calculations, technical analysis studies, seasonal and statistical analysis.
  • Reports and Graphs that provide a full range of trading information and market analysis, including seasonality, trends, spreads and forward curves, and are quick and easy to create.
  • A Formula capability with many energy-specific functions, allowing traders to model deals accurately, to create their own technical analysis studies, and to answer almost any question about historical market behaviour.

Risk Analysis
Optional risk analysis capabilities enable analysts and risk managers to calculate key correlation and volatility statistics, to measure basis risk and to assess hedging opportunities. Hedging reports calculate hedging efficiency and optimum hedge ratios for single and multiple hedges, and graphs allow analysis of historical trends and seasonality in both outright prices and basis spreads.

Refinery Netback Analysis
An optional netbacks module extends the database with refinery yields and freight rates and can be used to compare netback and margin values for any combination of crudes, refinery locations and operating modes. Oil producers can model the netback value of their own crudes around the world; traders can evaluate processing deals; and refiners can assess the profitability of different feedstock crudes.

Spreadsheet Analysis
The PAWSLink™ add-in for Microsoft Excel™ gives spreadsheet users direct access to the PAWS database. Data links are easy to set up and saved spreadsheets can be updated with all the latest data values in a single operation.
